The Australian Academy for Human Excellence conducts seminars, workshops and retreats in self-transformation so that participants can begin to experience deeper levels of their innate Love, Peace, Truth, Right Conduct and Non-violence – what we term Peaceful Mind, Open Heart.
Workshops on Human Values Education
Typically, these workshops are a live-in experience, for 80 hours over 6 to 10 days. They are for those interested in becoming the key players in their country for organising and conducting all training sessions for teachers and education reformers. Attendance is by invitation only, and not for the general public. Train-the-Trainer intensive workshops have been conducted in Australia, Japan, UK, the USA and Nigeria. Forthcoming ones in the USA, Singapore (for south-east Asia), Germany, Mexico and Canada are planned for 2017.
2. Workshops for Teachers and Education Reformers
These are in the form of one-day and two-day workshops, adding up to nine ascending Modules.
The first Module is the Introductory seminar, covering 6 hours. This introduces the participants to the principles of Human Values Education that are to be covered in the eight Modules to follow.
Those participating in the Introductory session are encouraged to join a Study Group, conducted by the Australian Academy for Human Excellence, that comes together every month for two hours to explore in more depth how to live each one of the five Human Values. Engaging in such discussions and experiential activities prepares the participants for Module 2.
Modules 2 to 8 cover in turn the topics represented by the letters in the acronym TEACHER, as indicated below:
A Awareness of Oneness
H Head, Heart and Hand
Module 9, the final in the series of workshops for teachers, is on the topic of self-analysis. It explores the rationale and methods for assessing our progress in applying Human Values Education in our life and work.
In summary, the nine Modules are as follows:
Module 1 : Introductory
Module 2 : Transformation
Module 3 : Exemplar
Module 4 : Awareness of Oneness
Module 5 : Culture
Module 6 : Head, Heart and Hand
Module 7 : Environment
Module 8 : Religion
Module 9 : Self-analysis
The Australian Academy for Human Excellence is a non-profit organisation and provides its workshops free of charge, apart from a fee to cover the costs of hiring a venue and the travel of the presenters, and the (non-profit) purchase of Handbook for Teachers in Human Values Education.
The Academy will make itself available to conduct an Introductory (6 hour) workshop in any school throughout Australia, as far as it is possible to do so. Based in Murwillumbah (in northern NSW), members of the Academy can readily conduct workshops within 200 Km without requiring a fee for travel costs.
Workshops on Mindful Parenting
These two-day workshops are for parents and all others interested in the upbringing of children. Packed with experiential exercises, the workshop leads participants into the mindful application of the principles underlying Human Values Education to all relationships, including those with children. Essentially, it is we who have to change, so that our children can be inspired to emulate our example of joyful, virtuous living.
Although the initial workshops are conducted by members of the Academy for Human Excellence, subsequent workshops are conducted by those participants who take a leading role in facilitating weekly follow-up meetings with those attending the first workshop. The material for these follow-up meetings is detailed in the book published by the Academy for Human Excellence: Mindful Parenting for a Meaningful Life: A Workbook for Parents.
Mindful Parenting workshops have been conducted by that country’s Academy for Human Excellence in Australia, UK, Nigeria and Japan.
Further workshops are planned in 2017 for Melbourne (Australia), Singapore (for south-east Asia), Germany, Mexico and Canada.
Workshops for Carers and Aged Care Workers
Throughout 2015 and 2016, the Australian Academy for Human Excellence conducted a number of one and two-day workshops for the 200 aged-care workers in SWAMI Home in Singapore. Four key trainers have been identified and have been training the other staff in similar principles to those underlying Human Values Education. To guide this training, the Australian Academy for Human Excellence produced for SWAMI Home a book titled: Handbook for Rediscovering Authentic Happiness in the Closing Years of our Life: Research findings in neuroscience, positive psychology and mindfulness for embracing the Path of Aging.
SWAMI Home intends to become the principle centre for training aged-car workers throughout Singapore and south-east Asia in how to maximise authentic happiness and wellbeing in both the staff and residents of aged-care facilities, using the teachings and experiential exercises in the above Handbook.
Based upon the promising outcomes of the SWAMI Home workshops, the Australian Academy for Human Excellence plans to conduct workshops for aged-care workers in Australia during 2017 and onwards.
Workshops in Self Transformation
Recognising that each one of us is aging and that the ideal preparation for that journey is to begin identifying with that Essence within us that does not change, the Academy plans to conduct workshops for the general public, using the Handbook for Rediscovering Authentic Happiness in the Closing Years of our Life.
